Radio Star

Radio Star is an interactive sky map composed of music album covers made with astronomy images. This project is an investigation into the reappropriation of astrophotography images by popular culture and, in particularly, the way in which (amateur) graphic designers are making use of them.

La fin du monde

This project is an index of over four hundred works of fiction related to the theme of societal collapse. These works were sorted into thirteen categories according to their cause of collapse, and then ordered according to their supposed time of collapse, and their date of creation.

La fin du monde

Printed version of the online database La fin du monde. This booklet list all the works I have identified for the project, covering a period from 1805 to 2020.

Master thesis on the reappropriation of scientic imagery

In May 2022 was published the first image of the black hole at the center the Milky Way, Sagittarius A. This image followed the one of the black hole M87, published in 2019, which had then been widely commented and appropriated on social media.

black/hole

A collection of drawings exploring our collective imaginary of black holes. The poster gather around 120 drawings made by different people and organised into 12 categories according to their resemblance to the various archetypal representations of black holes.

Scans

Digital images originally made with a scanner, that I edited and then printed in silkscreen, in four-color process.

Artefacts

Artefact is a research on the production of astronomy images distributed to the public. By modifying astrophotography images, I make visible the artefacts contained in the image, which have been masked prior to their publication.

Lettershape & asemic writting experiments

Exploration of different ways of apprehending and crafting letters, and a typeface as a whole.

Biennale Exemplaire 2021

Poster for HEAR Strasbourg's Atelier de communication graphique. This poster-cartel shows the whole text (references, ideas, conversations...) written on a collaborative pad to prepare the atelier's contribution to the biennale.

Verhaalpaal Noord

I worked together with Zeppa on the visual identity for an open-air exhibition about Amsterdam Noord history. The logo is inspired by the layered nature of a city, referencing archaeology, urban development, and the stratified ground beneath us.

Waar water landt

Design of a poetry book for Melle Dotinga, made with Zeppa.

Nomad's Land

I worked with Superposition on an online documentary exploring past and present immigration in Achterhoeks. I helped translate datasets and archival content into a narrative, leading to the development of a storyboard and documentary research to shape the story. These images are taken from the documentary and visual research and from the storyboard for the project.

Artist's walking guide

I collaborated with the artist-researcher Élise Alloin to design a prototype booklet to accompany an art path, one of Élise's projects around the closure of the Fessenheim (FR) power station. This bilingual french/german guide has four reading directions ― and therefore four different ways of being manipulated ― made possible by the triangular folding system.

I'm Clara Deprez, a graphic designer based in Amsterdam, mainly working for the cultural and social field, in both digital and print. I have a multidisciplinary approach, from making books, taking photography, to designing and developing websites. I enjoy constructing graphic systems, designing objects involving unusual interactions, collaborating with people to find the most efficient, playful and poetic solutions, all of this with a strong typographical approach :)
